La canzone fu anche riadattata in italiano in due occasioni: nel 1966 Carlo Rossi usò lo stesso motivo cambiando il testo e trasformandolo in una canzone d'amore dal titolo La tua immagine, canzone incisa da Luisa Casali; nel 1975 invece la canzone venne riproposta in italiano usando il messaggio originario di Simon & Garfunkel in un brano intitolato Il suono del silenzio e registrato da Adriano Pappalardo.
E' uno dei brani più famosi del duo statunitense, insieme a Scarbourouhg Fair e April come she will.
